aurora might have been stopped

if the assault weapons ban hadn't been left to expire.
the ar-15 rife carried by holmes, a civilian semi-automatic version of the military m-16, would have been defined as a “semiautomatic assault weapon” under the violent crime control and law enforcement act of 1994. if the law was still in force, semiautomatic assault weapons would have been outright banned - think progress

way back in 2004, the chicken hawks in charge thought regulation of assault weapons was crazy talk and the nra rejoiced. our freedom was assured.

fast forward to 2012 and all those men and women of valor who allowed this assault weapon ban to expire are nowhere to be found except on fixed noise where their deeds are praised after someone else's family members are killed and wounded. usa, usa!
