august 24, 1922

howard zinn was born. he passed away earlier this year, but we remember and honor him today.
“if those in charge of our society - politicians, corporate executives, and owners of press and television - can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. they will not need soldiers patrolling the streets. we will control ourselves.
he said he wanted to be known as "somebody who gave people a feeling of hope and power that they didn't have before...."

professor zinn...you did....and you still do.

Every high school student should be reading his seminal "People's History of the USA" if not in class then on their own.

One of the local schools has a right winger as history teacher. He's been sanctioned a couple of times for bringing BS tea party crap into class. Imagine the discourse at the chalkboard if half the class read Zinn's book.

The only way America can be called great is if it looks at itself with honest eyes.
