off the air america

this sucks.

air america, the long-suffering progressive talk radio network, abruptly shut down on thursday, bowing to what it called a “very difficult economic environment.”

the chairman of air america media, charlie kireker, said in a statement that the company would file under chapter 7 bankruptcy “to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.” - nytimes

The left can't even keep that going. More ammo for the nutters. Everything going according to plan for the dark side.

I think of Air America as the radio equivalent of Media Whores Online: both offered a different, and far more accurate, take on what was going on than the mainstream outlets were peddling, and both served as a springboard for other voices. (It was through MWO that I discovered skippy, by the way.) And both Air America and the Media Horse served their purposes long before they called it quits. I wouldn't mourn the passing of Air America. Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, and Rachel Maddow are still out there fighting the good fight in other venues, and Al Franken is now a U.S. Senator.

The whole point was to give liberals and progressives more leverage in the public discourse. Air America succeeded in that respect. It's okay. There will be more liberal and progressive voices to come...

What Jim said, I concur. When organizations outlive their usefulness, they become a drain. Best to slough off the dead leaves.
