michele bachmann overdrive (into bat s*** crazy)

what happens if a teabagger "goes for broke" and thinks the way to "scare" congress is to take a gun along and "shoot when he sees the whites of a congresscritters eyes"? when a congresscritter incites violence against her own collegues...fellow americans...i think some law inforcement intervention should be involved. (oh...michele has warned against doing that...)
in a conference call wednesday night with bloggers and activists for the advocacy group americans for prosperity, rep. michele bachmann (r-minn.) called on protesters to “scare” members of congress into killing the proposed health care reform bill.

...“i think that will absolutely scare these members of congress so much that pelosi will not get the votes and it will kill the bill. i think it could be dead for 10 years. why won’t we? why won’t we go for broke?”

bachmann reasserted a claim that pelosi was considering tightening security in preparation for the activists, which she warned "would be a huge mistake." - politco
martin, bachmann and redstate.com's erick erickson told regional organizers on the calls that thursday's rally and storm through the halls of congress were the tea partiers last chance to stop what bachmann called the democrats' plan to "literally have the power of life and death over you." - tpmdc

I'm sorry to read this nonsense here just as I was to hear it last night from Rachel Maddow (or was it Olbermann/O'Donnell or both?). Calling on people to flood Congress and talk to their Congress members, and hope that that has the result of intimidating them ("scaring" them) into supporting your position is the essence of democracy. I shudder when I see progressive people condemning it.

There is nothing in this about "inciting violence" - that's complete crap.

And, by the way, there are metal detectors in Congress; you can't carry a gun into its halls.
Left I, you're missing the point she made of saying to shoot when you see the whites of their eyes. This crap has teetered on open violence for months and throwing incendiary language around is outright irresponsible.

That said, I think it's past time for more of the left to embrace guns and the second amendment as closely as the right has. Maybe it's time to make them as afraid of us physically as they want us to be of them and as they seem to be of progressive ideas.

Anonymous, I'm afraid it's you who are mistaken. The part about shooting when you see the whites of their eyes was written by Cookie Jill, not Bachmann. What Bachmann said was almost exactly the opposite: "Don’t bring your pitchforks," Bachmann said, "bring your video cameras."

There certainly has been nonsense like bringing guns to town halls, etc. But this Bachmann event is not that, at least, not as she has called for it.
Left I

I misspoke when I inserted "shoot" into the phrase -- mea culpa -- but that's because as an American, the "shoot" part is inherently part of that phrase. You're either being deliberately thick or naive in thinking that this is not the case. I don't mind them having their protests, I don't mind them going to their OWN representatives' town halls or offices, I certainly don't mind any calls for civil disobedience but Bachman and her ilk have been using deliberatively inflamatory speech that is near inciting riots.
