yelling @ the president

as digby points out, it's not like obama is king or anything. you don't get arrested for disagreeing w/the president. right?

however, i can't help but recall what happened to these women during a bush junior speech to a joint session of congress:

call it the tale of two different shirts worn by two very different women: a well-known peace activist who has agitated the white house and a lawmaker's wife who has staunchly supported the u.s.-led war in iraq.

anti-war protester cindy sheehan wore a shirt with the message "2,245 dead. how many more?" -- a reference to the number of u.s. troops killed in iraq.

beverly young, the wife of 18-term republican u.s. rep. bill young of florida, wore a shirt that read "support the troops."

both shirts resulted in their owners being ejected from the house chamber before president bush's state of the union address on tuesday night.

sheehan, an invited guest of rep. lynn woolsey, a california democrat, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. et on charges of unlawful conduct. young was asked to leave but not arrested.
the capitol police later apologized, but stifling the slightest criticism of the president wasn't particularly unusual at that time as i'm sure you remember. in those days, just a few years ago, yelling at the president in that setting would have been considered treason and the democrats who did it would have been waterboarded.
personally, we believe that joe wilson should be shunned.

perhaps you can help, by calling his office (@ 202-225-2452)and letting him know what a tool he is.

also, you can contribute to wilson's opponent, rob miller.

we think this is important enough to hold our noses and quote kos:

yesterday, jake mcintyre wrote:

up until today, joe wilson was just another anonymous southern republican troglodyte congressman, unknown to all but the poor people of south carolina and the most serious horse race junkies.

today, he's the hyena who disgraced himself, his party, and the house chamber by screaming "you lie!" like an 8 year-old during the president's eloquent speech on the most critical challenge facing our nation.

there's something we can do to let joe wilson know what we think of his childish approach to a serious problem -- we can help out rob miller. rob is an iraq war vet -- a marine who came back to south carolina to try and restore dignity to south carolina's second cd, where joe wilson was selling out the district by voting for unfair trade deals and corporate giveaways. despite being a relative unknown, being outspent by a substantial margin, and a general republican lean to the district, rob came within just 8 points of knocking wilson off in 2008. and we're lucky to have him running again.

rob's a fair trade democrat who supports the employee free choice act. he's a breath of fresh air for a state that desperately needs new leadership. and we can help him tonight, as the nation sees what an immature loser his opponent is. let's chip in to help rob -- with early financial support, and with the notoriety wilson has brought on himself, we've got a chance to help send joe wilson packing -- and to bring maturity and decency to south carolina politics.
since last night, over 2,500 of you have contributed over $90,000 to rob miller's campaign. how about we help push that over $100,000? $150,000?

we've spent the entire summer watching the teabaggers drag our public discourse into the mud, spreading fear and lies, calling obama a nazi and describing the public option as a communist plot. we've seen them accuse us of wanting to kill their grandmothers, and they hysterically fought to "protect" their children from obama's "stay in school" speech to students, as if he were a child molester.

and last night, during a joint session of congress, rep. joe wilson adopted the teabagger tactics and bizarrely thought it a good idea to try and disrupt the president's address.

as you can imagine, wilson is becoming the latest conservative hero, joining the pantheon of joe the plumber, sarah palin, and michelle bachmann. but rather than watch in frustration, we can do something about it.

let's send a message to the republican party that their efforts to debase the political process will cost them, and let's seriously hurt them where it matters. drop a few bucks into rob miller's "defeat joe miller" fund.

One simple fact: Wilson should be censured for his DIRECT violation of house rules:
"Refrain from speaking disrespectfully of the Speaker, other Members, the President or Vice President."http://rules.house.gov/archives/house_decorum.htm

I pray a day comes that "throw money at the problem" is no longer the first and best solution, as I am in no condition to do so.

"I was just kidding"n "it was an emotional outburst!", or even.."I didn't know we were on TV!!"

But we all know what he really wanted was to scream"Commie Nigger!!"
Or,"You aren't even an American!!"....
Because he could always apologize later...just like he did...
This was yet another orchestrated piece of republican racist agenda being trotted out for a test..
You know, see how it plays in Peoria so to speak..

These people almost make me despair...
Fuck this guy, fuck his apology, fuck the GOP...they got nothing but hatred left, but that is pretty much all they ever had..
