people so very unclear of the concept.
the l.a. county sheriff's department today provided new details on the three people who were burned while protecting their homes saturday in big tujunga canyon.

two of the people injured refused a mandatory evacuation order, said sheriff’s department spokesman steve whitmore. he said that the two didn’t realize how serious the threat of the fire was, and that they thought they could protect themselves by jumping into a jacuzzi. - latimes

Maybe they were just desperate didn't want to lose everything they owned and their home. So they stick around to work a water hose and take the risk. For this you make fun of them? Now they are injured and probably still lost everything. Wait until you're desperate and see if you always make the right decision.

This is beneath you. It reminds me of the talking heads on TV to said the Katrina victims deserved their suffering because they didn't leave before the storm hit.

Dear Anonymous -

The reality is if you live in wildfire country you respect what Mother Nature (and the fire department, and the police, etc.) are telling you..."GET THE HELL OUT!" Also if you live in fire country, you know HOW to deal with evacuation and what is necessary to do for survival if you can't evacuate. Hot tubbing is NOT an option.

I live in Santa Barbara, which we have now nicknamed Santa Bar-B-Que. I have grown up with wildfires that have taken everything from friends of mine...I've come close to losing everything. The last wildfire, the Jesusita, I was evacuated 3 times. And, yes, I was afraid to lose everything BUT MY FREAKIN' LIFE.

These folks had the means and the werewithall to move their asses but chose not to. They then endangered Firefighters lives in their attempts to save them.

Fire is very fickle. It sets it's own rules. It makes it's own weather patterns. I hope you never have to confront a 75ft wall of flame like some of us.

I still stand by my assessment. These folks were freakin' idiots.
