how the hell do you not file tax returns

and still get a nod to work in the government? you blame the postal service? if you knew you were going to get a refund...wouldn't you be on the horn to the irs wondering where the check was?
choice as chief of protocol for the state department, a position that carries the status of an ambassadorship, did not file tax returns for 2005 and 2006, errors she corrected last november.

the nominee, capricia penavic marshall, has placed blame for the problem on the postal service and on miscommunication between her husband and their accountant.- nytimes
apparently this woman is clueless on the protocol we working slobs of the country have to adhere to. if one of us "non wealthy, non connected" americans didn't file tax returns for 2 years, we'd have the irs breathing down our neck threatening to take everything we have.

2 americas. it's not democratic vs. republican...it's rich vs. poor.

*update* - a skippy reader in the know responds...
people are still not delinquent until 3 years have passed. 2005 returns just went delinquent on 4/15 of this year.

the guy who said he filed every so often -- well, now it has to be in under 3 years, but he is right about getting back all the overpayments for that period. the computer automatically tacks on interest. anything older than 2006 and they confiscate the overpayments instead of giving you interest. and even when they confiscate the money, they send one last registered letter saying "if you have a good excuse, like you were sick or we are wrong about when you sent it, notify us now." a simple proof of mailing by 4/15 will get the money sent right along, with a delay for internal paperwork.

and these policies are not based on rich/poor -- only on dates of receipt.

"errors she corrected last november."

ERRORS ???

I am glad to hear that it is not considered criminal to evade taxes anymore...merely an error.

Sheesh....
Hope and change!

I used to do that all the time. It was perfectly legal at the time, and unless they changed the law it is just another shiny object for the party of zero.

I used to file every 4 or 5 years because when I did my taxes I saw that I would get back a cerain amount of money, which in the scheme of things wouldn't amount to much. But if I only filed every 4 or 5 years I would get all that cash back as a lump sum, and the IRS paid around 4 or 5% interest on it because the government was in effect borrowing my money from me.

Let me tell you, a big check every 4 or 5 years is a lot better than a bunch of small checks every year.

Some of them bought me new cars.

She is a shrewd person, and the government could probably use the cash right now.

"2 americas. it's not democratic vs. republican...it's rich vs. poor."

I couldn't agree more...

And on that topic as concerns President Obama, I am wondering, did ANY besides me realize that besides being an historical figure as the First Black President, that he is a Politician???
I mean seriously guys...when that hell has there EVER been a President that DID ALL THAT HE PROMISED ??
And on that topic (Promise Keeping ) did ANYONE besides me realize that a promise given can be thwarted easily by any number of things out of the control of the Promise Maker????
'cuase if ya didn't then maybe the tooth fairy comes to yer house and Santa too...along with the Easter Bunny...

It would be wonderful to have a President that says a thing and that thing happens...and it would be horrifying more so...because then we would have a King...
I will stick with President Obama...you guys should also...but this IS America...you don't have to do so...you are perfectly in your rights to complain and gripe and maybe on the off chance you get to change something...don't...just so you can say later,"See ?? Told you it was all a lie !!!"

Or keep your counsel, and try to hang on...and try to be helpful...

We are the makers of change here...
Call a Congress Member,..or don't.
Write a letter ...or don't.
Start a campaign ...or don't...
But the only change that can happen is the change that we force by virtue of political pressure...that means voting, calling,...you all know the drill...
I am from this day going to try my damndest to make a difference...complaining has not paid the dividends that I apparently convinced my self it would...So,...I will keep complaining but in whatever positive fashion I can find...
I can't say how effective this will be. I can say that just talking has brought nothing...
Please tell me when the US of A was not an oligarchy. Possibly during Jackson's presidency.

My neighbor had a service do her taxes for her & they neglected to include her Social Security income, although they should have. Even though she didn't 'owe' any taxes, because of the failure to include the income, she was fined $6,000. This on top of just having gone through radiation treatments for cancer of the tongue...

In 1994, after several notices, ol' Bob here pooh-poohed a final notice from the IRS to contact them NOW or suffer the consequences... I put the letter aside telling myself, "I'll deal with that later this month."

That was not one of my better decisions.

Less than a week later they locked up my checking acct and what meager savings I had [recently divorced]. I didn't know it until all of a sudden I had checks bouncing all over the Dayton, Ohio area. In fact, there's stores up there that still won't take my check 15 yrs later.

But, the IRS certainly got my attention!

So, it's hard to believe they let this lady slide for 2 years. If so, then I guess there are 2 different standards and that sucks a big one and it's time for the people to throw these b*stards out!

Is this the chief of protocol who was on watch when our President bowed to the Saudi?

Heckuva job there, Cappy!

Anonymous is right if you don't owe money, you don't have to pay every every year. Just fill out form WD-40 whenever you like and the IRS delivers the check with interest!

Cool thing is: The check is delivered by beautiful women who ride in on unicorns.

Then they stay and play D&D.
