the drowned merchants of venice

the city's gone-do-leer....
a combination of heavy rain and high winds has led to levels in the lagoon around venice rising to more than 4ft above normal.

...last year, unesco warned that venice was one of its designated world heritage sites that was threatened by climate change and that it is in danger of having any semblance of 'normal' life squeezed out of it. soaring rents and property prices - it is the most expensive city in italy after rome - mean venetians can no longer afford to live in the city. - dailymailonline

Historical significance aside...and all other things being accounted for...I am baffled by humanity's constant need to live by what (and charge unrealistic prices for the same privilege ) is a fundamentally unsafe and unsound area like Venice, Miami, New Orleans, Padre Island...etc.,...
It really is silly to allow other folks decide that "this" bit of constantly changing seaside , beach, waterfront...is worth so very much more than any other bit...
But Venice, I mean, how can it be saved??? Really...I don't see how...
