rumor central: sec. of state hillary!

if anyone has their finger on the pulse of what goes on in american politics, it's the uk guardian. snark aside, or at least as far aside as we can push it (which is about an inch to the left of our monitor), the paper is reporting that hillary will accept barack "to the future" obama's* offer of secretary of state:

hillary clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by barack obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the guardian has learned.

obama's advisers have begun looking into bill clinton's foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. but democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.

clinton would be well placed to become the country's dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing condoleezza rice. since being elected senator for new york, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. although she supported the war in iraq, she and obama basically agree on a withdrawal of american troops.
may we urge caution in accepting this report at face value, especially in light of the limeys' spelling habits, for which there is no specialized defense.

* yes! we coined that phrase! all the way back in 2006! suck on that, sadly, no!

As a NYer I'll be pretty disappointed if this proves true. First off, I don't understand why she'd take a position that will end her political career in 2-4 years which is the normal burnout rate.

Also, for someone who has spent so much of her life working for domestic changes, I just don't get it. I rather see her as a force to be reckoned with in the Senate -- for NY -- doing what she can to fix health care. And finally I want some Senators left in the Senate that aren't too quick to be a yes-person for that milquetoast Reid and are able to stand up to Obama if there is need to do so.

I can think of a Senator from Conn. that should be sent to the Middle East on a regular basis.
