one can only hope

via memeorandum, we find ourselves agreeing w/conservative writer kathleen parker @ washpost vis-a-vis fundamentalists as a political power:

which is to say, the gop has surrendered its high ground to its lowest brows. in the process, the party has alienated its non-base constituents, including other people of faith (those who prefer a more private approach to worship), as well as secularists and conservative-leaning democrats who otherwise might be tempted to cross the aisle.

here's the deal, 'pubbies: howard dean was right.

it isn't that culture doesn't matter. it does. but preaching to the choir produces no converts. and shifting demographics suggest that the republican party -- and conservatism with it -- eventually will die out unless religion is returned to the privacy of one's heart where it belongs.
well, as was written in some book or other, as ye sow, so shall ye reap.

the repubbbs have courted the fundies for decades, and now have no one to blame but themselves for letting the monster loose.

Photobucket

after years of demanding that the fundies' opinions are important enough to drown out all dissenting voices, they are left w/nothing except the holier-than-thou nutcases. so now, when it comes to real world concerns, like, say, elections, what other result did they expect?

as we have said elsewhere, the religious right thinks that jesus will lift them up out of their clothes into the sky when the dead walk the earth and jews catch fire, and they call us the "loony" left?

May I make a correction, Skip:

after years of demanding that the fundies' dollars are important enough to drown out all dissenting voices

How about, after years of demanding that the fundies' votes are important enough to drown out all dissenting voices?? The dollars they could get from their corporate masters. The fact that money was tighter this time is that the corporate masters didn't want to waste too much money on a losing cause.
