and we all know how successful george mcgovern can be

superdelegate and former clinton supporter george mcgovern is reported to be urging the senator to drop out of the race after last night's loss in north carolina and squeaker of a win (2%) in indiana. time:

former sen. george mcgovern, who backed hillary rodham clinton, is urging her to drop out of the democratic presidential race.

mcgovern said wednesday he has decided to endorse barack obama.

after watching the returns from the north carolina and indiana primaries tuesday night, mcgovern says it's virtually impossible for clinton to win the nomination.
sure, the math seems to make it all but impossible for sen. clinton to gain the nomination. the only thing that seems to be on her side is good old fashioned american bigotry. nydailynews:

with clinton posing alongside pioneering indy speedster sarah fisher, there were almost no african-americans to be seen. many in the white, working-class crowd were simply not ready to back barack obama - for reasons that are disturbing.

"i'm kind of still up in the air between mccain and hillary," said jason jenkins, 32, who cited information from a hoax e-mail as a reason to spurn obama.

"i'll be honest with you. barack scares the hell out of me,"he said. "he swore on the koran."

obama did manage to pull in many white voters, but still encountered similar sentiments from a man who refused to shake his hand at a diner in greenwood, ind.

"i can't stand him," the man said. "he's a muslim. he's not even pro-american as far as i'm concerned."
the nydaily news says that this "cold calculus" is "not of clinton's making" but gives her reasons to stay in the race.

we will be very honest here, and we apologize for not being this forthright in the past. we believed that sen. clinton would make a better president than sen. obama.

but we saw her pander to the lowest and most ignorant factions in the electorate these past few months, and watched her behave in a manner more befitting a repubbblican than a dem. this very idea, the fact that there are many white voters hesitant to vote for obama, should not be exploited by a fellow dem, but rather should be fought against with information and knowledge and support.

it may not be of her making, but she's making hay of it.

and we are disgusted.

Welcome to the fold Skippy.

I wondered when your sense of outrage was going to kick in.

I know it is hard to let loose of the candidate that you feel is the best choice (I was originally an ardent John Edwards supporter), but you are correct in feeling outraged by the tactics that Hillary has employed to attempt to show Barack as unelectable.

Lemme echo what fellow former Edwardian supporter Gryphen said.

Up until maybe six months ago, Hillary at best occasionally annoyed me, but I still respected her. I respected her a great deal.

My tipping point came earlier, the point where her tactics just pissed me off. She's set a lousy example for a party that is supposed to be better than that.

She not only lived up to every two-dimensional characterization I've defended her and Bill against for years, she did it by adopting the ways of the enemy -- something no one with an ounce of integrity would do.

BTW, you wish you had a career like McGovern. He didn't get the big prize, but neither have you or I. Also, I never knew a time when he acted against his stated principles. Hillary, not so much.

Thank you, skippy. I'm under no delusions that Obama's going to be able to fix this mess, but the idea of rewarding Hillary for this sort of behavior and pandering to racists who won't vote for ANY Democrats is just too repugnant.

I never thought I'd ever again see someone with a "D" after his/her name sound like George Wallace circa 1968.
