if women weren't major players in this story we'd use the headline "tit for tat"
sen. obama's campaign have called on sen. clinton to remove geraldine ferraro from her campaign because of ill-considered remarks made by the former vp nominee. cnn blog political ticker:
we suppose that the obama campaign thinks firing ferraro would betit for tat justice for having to fire samantha power, who called sen. clinton a "monster."
addendum: got something to say to ms. ferraro? why not email her? (keep it civil!)
sen. barack obama's top strategist tuesday demanded that sen. hillary clinton sever ties with geraldine ferraro, a top clinton fundraiser who said obama was only a major presidential contender because he is a black man.
david axelrod said the comment by ferraro, a former new york representative, coupled with clinton's "own inexplicable unwillingness" to deny that he [obama] was a muslim during a recent interview -- was part of "an insidious pattern that needs to be addressed"...
"if obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. and if he was a woman he would not be in this position. he happens to be very lucky to be who he is. and the country is caught up in the concept," ferraro told the [torrance daily breeze].

ms. ferraro, who was certainly not chosen to be walter mondale's vice president nominee because she was female, seems to want to have it both ways;
ferraro said the new york senator had suffered because the press "has been uniquely hard on her. it's been a very sexist media. some just don't like her. the others have gotten caught up in the obama campaign."
"i was reading an article that said young republicans are out there campaigning for obama because they believe he's going to be able to put an end to partisanship,” she added. “dear god! anyone that has worked in the congress knows that for over 200 years this country has had partisanship - that's the way our country is."
the same could be said for sexism. but progressives would want to end such things, we would hope.ferraro said the new york senator had suffered because the press "has been uniquely hard on her. it's been a very sexist media. some just don't like her. the others have gotten caught up in the obama campaign."

I know this would leave much less for us bloggers to chew on, but perhaps we should give up on the idea of political animals being held to the same standards of consistency and ethics as the rest of us. For just one example, if you held the membership of the U.S. House up to such a standard grid, and expelled all who didn't cut it, there might not be enough members left to compose a subcommittee. Oh, well, it's my day to be cynical.

Isn't it actually another ploy to make Obama look "weak"? I think it is. Just another red herring. I took exception to the whole identity politics from the start. I think these things really show hillary's leadership style as very much like the petulant above the law..... and ethics that we have now. Mark Penn, as CEO, of an marketing firm that tranforms the saudis into our "friends" is on par with rover. No question. The DLC, as well, is doing the same turn to the right they do in the general, and ends up losing, now instead of the general. I'd rather see this stuff now.
Obama's campaign has to say that. If they don't they're "weak", if they do, they're "piling on". Whatcha gone do? Say it, then move on. Actually, it just really does show hillary for who she is. More like bush.
The Democratic Party, lead by the DLC/McAuliff in the last two elections, has proven we cannot be better Republicans.... yet they keep trying. Bonus: it disenfranchises voters.... which benefits the pubs and the DLC. And now they're working on deisenfranchising voters .... so the DLC can win the nom and proceed to lose the general. Again. And even if the DLC wins the general, this time..... unlikely, we get more of the same petulant behavior. Where's the change in that?
Here's where we might fight on past all the tantrums and goading and focus on the fact we must progress.
Love all your stuff Skippy! :-)
