as stupid as abc
susie madrak of suburban guerilla has a really good point. she emails us:
susie in incenced, and rightfully so, that this sort of salacious gossip would pass for journalism. we agree w/her that, especially on this anniversary date of an illegal, immoral and agressive war, during a time when the economy is folding under the weight of predatory lending and capitalistic usury, the last thing that needs to be news is the clintons' marriage woes (and bill's sexual peccadillos).
please call brian ross at (212) 456-7612. or send abc news an email.
addendum: lambert of corrente assures us that the phone number is legitimate.
this was why they wanted clinton's white house schedule? this is what passes for investigative journalism at abc news?

i don't care who you're supporting in this primary election - if we let them do this now to hillary clinton, it will only embolden them to do worse later. what a piece of trashy, superfluous, truly mean excuse for journalism.
i was an investigative journalist for 15 years, and i've never been so ashamed of my former profession.
should you wish to organize a reader action, this is the phone number for brian ross, head of abc news investigative division. i've already left my own message - feel free to share: 212-456-7612.

in essence, the abc piece simply posits in bold, 45 point font headlines, that hillary clinton was in the white house the day monica lewinski was getting her blue dress stained by bill.http://abcnews.go.com/blotter/story?id=4482242&page=1

I called them, yes, and politely expressed my dismay.

WSJ isn't much better. Their headline is
Clinton's Calendar and Vince Foster. The only thing the article "reveals" is that she had a meeting with him a month before he died and that she was across the country when it happened. That was worth a headline?
I'm not even a Clinton supporter and I think it's ridiculous.

I'm guessing that also in the WH that evening were about 100 or so other people, most of them probably in closer proximity than Hillary to Bill and Monica, starting with the Secret Service detail, members of the West Wing staff, White House domestic staff, whoever was in charge of the situation room at that time, etc.
It's not like Hillary was in the front room of the double-wide while Bill and Monica were gettin' it on in the back bedroom. The White House is a little larger than that.
Then again, a few of the commenters at Madrak's place seem to have lost it.

Oh keeerist, you gotta be kidding me.
It's predictable enough, but it makes you want to just start smacking people.
