things aren't looking good for mclame

a couple of reasons why...

firstly, zogby tells us his polling shows that while mclame would beat clinton at this point, obama would beat mclame 47% to 40%.

worse, tho, jeralyn at talkleft says the nytimes is reporting that mclame has been "tied to" a 40 year old blonde lobbyist:

msnbc broke into hardball to announce this news that just appeared on the new york times website: john mccain is tied to a 40 year old female lobbyist 8 years ago. both deny an improper relationship. that's not what others suggest.

a female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

when news organizations reported that mr. mccain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

we don't know if this story has legs, but we bet the lobbyist does! (ba-da-dum! thank you everybody and good night! be sure to tip your waitress!)

addendum: thomas at blue indiana tells us why he's not scared of john mccain (mainly because the mclame campaign is so incompetent, they haven't met the criteria to get their candidate on indiana's ballot yet).
