if being in last place is a crime, let us be guilty

imagine our mixed emotions upon being a finalist for the second year in a row in the 2007 weblog awards, only to be relegated to last place in our category since the very beginning of voting.
we are especially torn over the fact that the blog we are closely following behind, which is second-to-last place, is the brilliant orcinus, founded and written mainly by david neiwert.
aside from being one of the first in blogtopia, and yes, we coined that phrase, to link to our humble site, dave is, in our opinion, the best writer in blogtopia, and yes, we coined that phrase, in case you hadn't heard.
dave, unlike some writers we could name (but won't), doesn't rely on sarcasm instead of making points. he also is succinct in his writings, unlike some who never use one word when 20 will do. his stuff is always interesting, to the point, and clear. he, above all others in this medium, manages to pull the reader instantly into his analysis. and there's never a sense of condescension in his narrative.
dave also never preaches to the choir. his work is accessable to every reader, even if it's the first time said reader has ever seen a blog, let alone neiwert's work. in other words, no in-jokes.
and so, since orcinus is the closest blog to keeping us out of last place, it makes us very sad to have to say...screw that damn neiwert and his blog!!! vote for us!! not him!!! he's lousy!!! skippy is so much better than orcinus!!! vote for us!!!
(and don't get us started on that damn shakesville!)
we suppose if we were gracious, we would take jon swift's tact in contemplating our poor showing in the voting for the weblog awards, and, instead of mourning our own failures to pull ahead, cajole our readers to vote for our friends, who also are doing lousy in voting.
so, to that end, may we suggest the following: go vote for jon swift.

Yeah, except that unlike the Gavin/Jon predicament, where they're trying to defeat the Forces of Evil, I also really like all the bloggers I'm competing against. I mean, if I weren't in it, I'd vote for Digby. It's actually a pretty good list, and I'm frankly a little amazed to be on it. Aren't you?
Anyway, I'll be happy to finish last if that's what happens, because I don't take this stuff in the least seriously.

Hey, skip, don't despair. Firstly, there's a subliminal message that reads "Most capitalized blog" that totally holds you back.
Secondly, even Digby didn't get a shout-out from Jon Stewart!

And just to underscore the arbitrary and ridiculous nature (as well as freeped) of the entire Weblog Awards, the run away leader in Best Blog is PostSecret.
