why even have laws...

why even vote for democrats?
leaders of the senate intelligence committee reached a tentative agreement on wednesday with the bush administration that would give telephone carriers legal immunity for any role they played in the national security agency’s domestic eavesdropping program approved by president bush after the sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a congressional official said wednesday. - wapo

I'm on the fence about this, mostly because if the telecoms were threatened to turn over the phone records, it's not really fair to hold them liable.

But...on the other hand, that should be determined in a civil court, and not Congress, I imagine.
