randi rhodes' mugging...never mind

kevin hayden is reporting that nydailynews is reporting that randi rhodes wasn't a victim of a hate crime, was not mugged, and didn't even file a police report:

a police source said rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. cops from manhattan's 17th precinct called her attorney, who told them rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

rhodes' lawyer told the daily news she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. he said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. the lawyer said rhodes expects to be back on the air thursday. he stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."

thank goodness it wasn't more serious.

but this brings us to the question of why jon elliot went off on an anti-right wing rant on air, labeling this incident a "hate crime" when not all the facts are in.

such screeding without knowledge of the entire picture makes our side look no better (or worse, no smarter) than the limbaughs and coulters and malkins of the world.

tho our blog incorrectly repeated the "mugged" meme, at least we didn't attribute it to a hate crime, saying instead that we hoped it was just a regular new york-style mugging. however even that was untoward in light of recent revelations. for this we apologize.

Well said. As you say, there's still plenty of unanswered questions. Which mean, of course, the finger-pointing has probably only just begun.

Because he's a doosh whom Mary Scott O'Connor (who has a lovely radio show coming up next Monday, mark your calendars!) should replace immediately.

Sadly if she had just issued a statement right away in the am- before anyone could make statements on the air and spread confusion- then this would not have happened....I wish her well...and that she recover soon....and skippy we know you try to report the facts as you are told them...we know that you are not part of gossipmongering.....or misinformation compaigns- we leave that to FOX....you do a fine job....

but how reliable are they?
i wish AAR or Randi would make a statement.
