it's official - no president gore
al gore has officially ruled out running. msnbc:
"i don't have plans to be a candidate again so i don't really see it in that context at all," gore said when asked in an interview with norway's nrk public television aired on wednesday about how the award would affect his political future.
that's ok, because apparently hardly anybody wants him to. ed&pub:gallup reveals: "just 41% of americans say they would like to see gore run for president, with the majority, 54%, opposed to a gore candidacy. that is essentially the same result that gallup found in march, when 38% expressed a desire for a gore presidential bid. even democrats seem tepid to the idea of gore running for president -- just 48% favor such a move while 43% are opposed...
"in the new update of national democrats' and democratic-leaning independents' preferences for the democratic presidential nomination, 14% select gore as their first choice when he is included in a list along with the eight announced democratic candidates. clinton leads with 44%, while obama is next at 19%. gore finishes slightly ahead of edwards, who is supported by 10% of rank-and-file democrats."
let's all start saying it now...president hillary, president hillary, president hillary...you! guiliani! start chanting! president hillary, president hillary, president hillary..."in the new update of national democrats' and democratic-leaning independents' preferences for the democratic presidential nomination, 14% select gore as their first choice when he is included in a list along with the eight announced democratic candidates. clinton leads with 44%, while obama is next at 19%. gore finishes slightly ahead of edwards, who is supported by 10% of rank-and-file democrats."

i'd rather stay home than vote for hillary. her presidency will be like watching a four-year game of donky kong.
sorry.

Curiously, Pres Bush's approval rating of 24% would have him leading the Republican primary battle AND second to Hillary...
Says a lot about our country. More about republicans.
Says a lot about our country. More about republicans.
What's the percentage of people who would like to see the 24/7 coverage of Election 2008 disappear until, say, mid-2008? I'll bet it's higher than 41...
41% seems higher than any other candidate out there right now...

small cute dog is our only hope!
If sat down with the reality that it's either Hillary or another Republican, I wonder how rapidly people would flock to Gore. The idea of another baton pass of legacy presidents, the idea of keeping this nation tattered and torn as it has been, as a Hillary presidency would keep it... I think I may still want to move to Canada.

By the way, I wonder if they ever asked the question how many people would like to see Fred Thompson (or Rudy Giuliani or anyone else) run for President? My guess is that the number would have been substantially less than 41%, despite all the hype before Thompson announced about how "everyone" was waiting for him.
