if bucks were votes, the dems would rule. nytimes:

the leading democratic presidential candidates raised twice as much money as their republican counterparts this summer, according to campaign finance reports filed yesterday, and several major candidates spent more money than they raised.
blah blah hillary clinton blah blah blah $23.7 million blah blah barack obama blah $20 mill blah blah blah. then the story goes on:

the leading republican candidates, by comparison, raised much less and were left with much less for their primaries.

mitt romney, the former massachusetts governor, raised $9.5 million over the summer but spent more than twice that much, $21.3 million. mr. romney lent his campaign $8.5 million, but even with the loan, his expenses outpaced his receipts. his campaign reported that it had $9.2 million left for the primaries.

rudolph w. giuliani, the former new york city mayor, raised more than any other republican candidate this summer, $11.6 million, but he also spent more than he raised, burning through $13.3 million without running a single television commercial. his campaign reported having $11.6 million on hand for the primaries.
edwards and richardson also spent more than they raised. but it looks like the repubbbs are not as popular with the folks who have the wallets as they used to be.

Very telling. All of the Republican candidates are into spending more than they have, just like the current Republican president.

Bucks may not be votes, but they _are_ speech. Just ask the Supreme Court.

Of course, that opinion was handed down when Republicans had more bucks. Now that Dems are raking it in, look for the Roberts court to reverse ...
