if you can't beat 'em, buy an ad

john edwards decided to circumvent the system and bought a two minute ad that aired during awol's "here's another bridge i can sell ya" speech last night. asspress:

in the clamor of democrats assailing president bush on iraq, presidential candidate john edwards has found a way to be heard after bush addresses the nation thursday night: he's buying time for a rebuttal.

edwards has bought two minutes of air time on msnbc, scheduled to air after bush's 15-minute televised speech from the white house at 9 p.m. edt.
unfortunately for edwards, as tvnewser reports, msnbc chose to air it not immediately after awol:

not only was that edwards "address" not "immediately following" the president, it came after an msnbc panel discussion, an interview with edwards' democratic challenger sen. joe biden, an interview with republican presidential candidate mike huckabee, a commercial break, then more interviews, nbc's tim russert then brian williams, and finally, two more commercial spots.

the adver-dress from john edwards finally aired at 9:51pmet, 31 minutes after the president had finished his white house address. and it ended with the line that will become very familiar, very soon: "i'm john edwards and i approve this message." or ad, or address, or platform. you get the point. or at least the edwards campaign hopes you do.
in the ad, edwards called for congress to insist on a withdrawl timeline before allocating any more funds for the iraq war. you can see the entire speech here:

For those of you who would like a real solution to the Iraq war Monkeyfister, Cupojoe, and myself have come up with an idea to actually get the attention of congress. A nationwide work stoppage. Our site Shut It Down is located at:

When I watched it, it came on in the middle of an ad string right after the official dem rebuttal. It was less than 2 minutes after the dem rebuttal. I live in CT btw, so the speech started at 8pm. Perhaps he purchased his time at a specific time(of day), rather than a specific place in the order of the program.
