well, we do want to see more jill hennessee and george dzundza anyway
if fred thompson ignores reality and decides to run for president, nbc has announced it will no longer show reruns of "law and order" featuring the booming-voiced actor. nytimes:
perhaps, to fill the vacuum, they'll re-run the early episodes when it was still good. we're looking forward to those old michael moriarty-stephen hill exchanges:
now that mr. thompson seems poised to re-enter politics as a republican presidential candidate, his career will take another twist. in may, he asked nbc to release him from further “law & order” commitments; more recently, nbc said it was ready to stop showing reruns of the episodes he appears in because of federal equal time regulations for presidential candidates.
“if fred thompson formally announces his intention to run for president, nbc will not schedule any further repeats of ‘law & order’ featuring mr. thompson beyond those already scheduled,” which conclude on sept. 1, nbc said in a statement.
mr. thompson’s final original episode of “law & order” was repeated on aug. 5, and he has appeared in 115 episodes in all, according to the internet movie database. he has also played in nearly 20 films (including “in the line of fire” and “the hunt for red october”), often depicting a sober-minded government authority figure.
tnt, which is not bound by equal time rules, as it's a cable network (that explains a lot of fox news), may also, however, decide to pull the thompson episodes.“if fred thompson formally announces his intention to run for president, nbc will not schedule any further repeats of ‘law & order’ featuring mr. thompson beyond those already scheduled,” which conclude on sept. 1, nbc said in a statement.

deputy da ben stone: i don't care if he's the biggest philanthropist in the city! he'd better hope he can find a shoulder to cry on at rikers!
district attorney adam schiff: you'd better hope (long pause, as the audience wonders if it's for effect or for stephen hill to catch his breath) you have a job in the morning!
bonus addendum: be sure to take our unnecessary poll on our right hand side bar, naming your favorite law & order detective team!district attorney adam schiff: you'd better hope (long pause, as the audience wonders if it's for effect or for stephen hill to catch his breath) you have a job in the morning!

Thompson is just not a very good actor.
Which doesn't bode well for his political career. Quite frankly I'd be happier continuing to see him act the curmudgeon on "L&O" than see him try to be a Very Serious Curmudgeon in politics.

It also deserves to be said - Thompson is just not a very good actor. Orbach, Sorvino, Dzunda, Hennessy... all better.
