the homegrown terrorist group. republicans.
while spending billions of dollars in iraq, in a war of choice, our country and it's infrastructure is collapsing around us.
the mississippi river bridge in minneapolis that collapsed was part of the i-35 corridor that awol proposes more and heavier trucks to carry stuff from mexico to canada and vice versa, and it's also of the key components in that "nafta superhighway", that this administration and their earmarking 'ho's" are pushing forward.
so, in a way, this tragic collapse is part of a "conspiracy to destroy our country." but it's not al qaeda...it's a "home grown terrorist" group that's responsible, the republicans.
senator al franken (d-mn). has a good ring to it.

nasco has received $2.5 million in earmarks from the united states department of transportation (usdot) for the development of a technology and tracking tools. nasco hopes the deployment of a modern information system will reduce the cost, improve the efficiency, reduce trade-related congestion, and enhance security of cross-border and corridor information, trade, and traffic.and the republican governor, pawlenty, vetoed a transportation bill that would have raised money for infrastructure maintenence.
...critics of supercorridors complain that existing transportation infrastructure is not being invested in and maintained. - wikipedia
in 2005, the bridge had been characterized as "structurally deficient" and in possible need of replacement. this was reportedly reflected by its rating in the us department of transportation's national bridge inventory database.but the republican governor had time to use taxpayer money to fund a baseball park.
pawlenty worked throughout 2006 to fund a minnesota twins baseball stadium using tax dollars and signed the resulting minnesota twins-hennepin county ballpark bill at the hubert humphrey metrodome. the legislation exempted the county from a state law which normally required a referendum for any new local taxes.would have been nice to improve the infrastructure instead.

As Jane said elsewhere, "We're spending money over there so we don't have to spend it here at home."
This is the GOP mantra.
They're pissing money away on illegal wars that chew up our children in a meat grinder, and then blaming anybody but themselves when disasters exacerbated by their spendthrift attitudes happen here at home.
Remember: GOPpers are helping the terrorists win by terrorizing us at home so the terrorists "over there" don't have to.
Remember this when you go to vote: NO GOPper can be trusted. Not one. They are responsible for more death and destruction in this country and elsewhere than any other single group of people.
Don't vote GOP if you value your life and those of your children.
Start holding these right-wing thugs responsible... now.

That's another place where tax cuts hit - infrastructure - Rail, highways bridges, water and sewer and schools. All used to be funded in large part by Federal money or state money (that was provided by the feds).

We drove on I35E leaving and returning to MSP airport during our trip to Wisconsin.
In fact, heading to the airport the day we left, Pam wanted to drive over the more scenic I35W, but we were a little concerned about time so we took the more direct route.
But she's driven over that bridge countless times. Spooky.

So they're going to let them rot. After all, it's a lot easier to pass legislation after a tragedy than to take responsibility for preventing it.
