the god at night is big and bright deep in the heart of texas!

via shakesville, now the kids reciting the pledge of allegence to texas have to include god:

texas students will have four more words to remember when they head back to class this month and begin reciting the state's pledge of allegiance.

this year's legislature added the phrase "one state under god" to the pledge, which is part of a required morning ritual in texas public schools along with the pledge tothe u.s. flag and a moment of silence.

state rep. debbie riddle, who sponsored the bill, said it had always bothered her that god was omitted in the state's pledge.

"personally, i felt like the texas pledge had a big old hole in it, and it occurred to me, 'you know what? we need to fix that,' " said riddle, r-tomball.[...]

by law, students who object to saying the pledge or making the reference to god can bring a written note from home excusing them from participating.
"timmy, are you being a godless heathen again?"

"it's ok mrs. buttinsky, i have a note from my mom!"

as we said over at shakesville, it's no big whoop to us. skippy is of an age where he recited the pledge of allegiance to the flag everyday in grade school.

even at that tender age, skippy was a cynic and a rebel, and so he simply refused to say the words "the flag of," "for which it stands," and "for all." (he did believe in including god in the pledge; the more, the merrier!)

so he would just recite the pledge, leaving out his select words to reflect his opinions. and nobody made a big deal about it.

skippy admits, however, he left in the word "indivisible" because he thought it was some kind of superpower like sue storm in the fantastic four.
