but who will tell the congress?

via tpm we find the wapo story that aWol has just declared himself king:

broader privilege claimed in firings
white house says hill can't pursue contempt cases

bush administration officials unveiled a bold new assertion of executive authority yesterday in the dispute over the firing of nine u.s. attorneys, saying that the justice department will never be allowed to pursue contempt charges initiated by congress against white house officials once the president has invoked executive privilege.
so reid and leahey have three choices: a) inherent contempt; b) impeachment; c) bend over. would darth vader have escalated this fight unless he was fairly confident of "c"?

As if the White House or Congress has any say in any of this.

It's going to come down to SCOT--...aw shit!

If the administration "brain trust" had spent half the time they spend on trying to hide their crimes on how to conduct a war on terror we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.

Lovely priorities over there, eh?

Heard a great suggestion today on RR which was that both criminal and inherent contempt charges should be filed immediately. Miers can be summoned, does not have to be found by the sergeant-at-arms,& if she is a no-show due to Bush, these are grounds for immediate impeachment Meanwhile, if Gonzales refuses to deal with the criminal contempt charges per Bush, can be impeached along with Bush as this is a federal offense. Nice, eh? Now if Conyers will just do it....
