mission accomplished!

the "cataclysmic" bombing plot is described by law enforcement officials as "capability low, intent very high," in the nytimes.

so what did the "bombers" accomplish? it knocked may's death toll of american soldiers off of the front page. it was the third highest ever in awol's oil grab in iraq. it was a bad month for civilians in iraq, too.

higher deaths and no visible progress. is awol's surge working? i guess we will have to wait for the rightwing noise machine to fill in the answer for us.

In fairness, George, these stories both broke on a Saturday, so it's hard to say anything got knocked off the front page. The pundits commented (at least they did at McLaughlin) on Iraq anyway.

It also got aWol a nice new shiny piece of propaganda to bandy about next time he feels the need to talk at us on the TV

It also gives some good fodder for Tony Snow when he rips into one of his global-war-on-terror-is working riffs
