gonzo but not forgotten

not the top guy, but the next best thing...cnn:

the no. 2 official at the justice department, deputy attorney general paul mcnulty, has submitted his resignation to attorney general alberto gonzales, the justice department announced monday.

mcnulty cited personal reasons for his resignation.

"the financial realities of college-age children and two decades of public service lead me to a long overdue transition in my career," he wrote in his resignation later.
personally, we think mcnulty probably wrote that in his resignation letter, but cnn seems to think he went back and added it in at a later time.

we're not the only ones who wished it was gonzo who was gone. washpost quotes chuck schumer:

it seems ironic that paul mcnulty who at least tried to level with the committee goes while gonzales who stonewalled the committee is still in charge," said sen. charles e. schumer (d-n.y.), who has asked gonzales to resign. "this administration owes us a lot better."
don't hold your breath waiting to collect on that debt, chuck.
