none dare call it treason*

via americablog we learn that the nyt is reporting that osama's back, al-q's rebuilt and all hell's going to break loose.

“The chain of command has been re-established,” said one American government official, who said that the Qaeda “leadership command and control is robust

we should note, however, that mazzeti and rohde, authors of the piece, also note:

The intelligence and counterterrorism officials would discuss the classified intelligence only on the condition of anonymity. They would not provide some of the evidence that led them to their assessments, saying that revealing the information would disclose too much about the sources and methods of intelligence collection.

so either the dirty f'ing hippies were right and aWol's decision to attack iraq without a morally cognizable basis has led directly to the point where osama can attack us here so he doesn't have to bother over there - in which case, the folks who brought you iraq, katrina and walter reed will be in charge of recovery and response...or

aWol's people are just making shit up and using the nyt as their megaphone. now why would aWol et al be making shit up? tell us what you think.

*none dare call it treason: the full quote according to bartlett's is "
Treason doth never prosper: what s the reason? Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason." Sir John Harrington (1561-1612) Epigrams, Book iv. Ep. 5. Note 1.

Why would BushCo makes stuff up about Pakistan being the enemy when 1) it has no oil, 2) the target is Iran, 3) they are our allies, as in a dictator who will toe the line, 4) wefired artillery into Pakistan and nobody cared, 5) They have nukes.

The more attention called to the fact Al Qaida is safe and sound in Waziristan, the more somebody's going to notice that Musharraf cut a deal with them, and that Bsuh cut a deal with Musharraf.

So clearly it's a case of the first theory being much more likely. The target was always Iran, Pakistan and AQ are just in the way.
