question of the day -- and one personal comment...

why are we being assaulted day after day with idle speculation over who the democratic party will nominate for its presidential candidate in 2008 when it's only january 2007?

and to those of you who are among the idle speculators, please: shut up and go away. just keep your wishful thinking to yourselves for one year. come next january, you can bludgeon me with your poll figures and silly predictions all you want. but i don't want to hear any more of this stupid crap until then for the same reason i don't want to hear anything ever again about tom-kat or brangelina: the universe does not revolve around celebrity gossip.

mm-kay? can you precious political junkies deal with this? did you understand what i just said? or do you want me to say it again more slowly using smaller words?

What? I didn't get that. What?

So, who do you think will be the Democratic nominee for president in '08.

What?

Thank you! I am so sick and tired of the speculation. Wake me up when it's March 2008 and then I'll start to care.

Um, so we will be sick of any possibly electable Democrats
long before the primaries?

So that the talking heads can stir up misogyny and racism by attacking Hillary and Obama for a year?

Because it's cheaper to produce 'Hardball' than 'Jokers Wild' and it attracts the same audience that enjoys people shouting on television?

Oh Thank you!!!!! It would be a relief it anybody but these few commenters paid any attention! I have turned off the tv as much as possible and am skipping all blog posts--its a long way away people! And you are right, it is just like that disgusting "celebrity gossip". No wonder our country has lost it's mind--it was taken away by the television long ago.

Tis true Mimus. Not so much the discussion of who's throwing their hats into the ring as the celeb-trashing kind of discussion that altogether omits what sort of policies they intend to bring to the party. We should be discussing concrete ideas, not saying "oh Hillary's the best thing since sliced bread omg".

I said the same thing a few weeks ago. First, I don't think we know who the candidates will be; all we know is who people are talking about now. Second, can't we have six months off?

...so "Amen" to that...

Well, we must consider that the more pundit/TV/talking head air time and newsprint inches and blog posts are wasted on this the more our attention is directed away from what matters.

We're up to our necks in a catastrophuck in Iraq, we seem to be about to unleash heaven-only-knows-what on Iran, New Orleans is still in dire straits, the economy is shaky if you're a working stiff, too few people have health insurance... OOOHH --- LOOKY --- a shiny thing...
