washpost stops short of endorsing lieberman

greg sargent at tpm cafe tells us the washpost "gives nod to lieberman -- or so it seems":

the washington post today seems to throw its support behind joe lieberman, though the editorial oddly doesn't explicitly say the paper is endorsing him. and it adds:

"[v]oters who believe that mr. lieberman is wrong on the war and that the war is the paramount issue are entitled to vote for his opponent in the aug. 8 primary. that's democracy."

well, yes -- thanks for that, wapo.
even worse, the actual editorial goes on to say;

but it seems that mr. lieberman is also being pummeled for his ability to work with republicans and get things done in washington -- also rare traits -- and that's a criticism that strikes us as shortsighted even from a partisan democratic point of view.
the problem is, lieberman's ability to work with repubbblicans and get things done in washington is reminiscent of chamberlain's ability to work with hitler and get things done in europe.

that is to say, concessions are not the same as co-operation. at least, not in our book.
