neil young...

sometimes he's a hard rocker, other times he's a soft roller -- and once in a while, he produces someting truly atrocious like arc. neil young is proof positive that there's no accounting for taste.

not that that's a bad thing. overall, i like him. it's just that i love him the most when he's playing the soft roller. his hard rocker guise is all right -- i just get the impression that he's a bit of a fish out of water when he's playing an electric guitar. he always sounds a little out of his element to me that way. but when he's playing acoustic guitar...

well, i've watched his heart of gold dvd three times now, and i simply can't get enough of it. neil and company (including the graceful emmylou harris) deliver a splendid performance. and i'm not just saying that because my favorite neil young song, "harvest moon," is on it. this is a wonderful dvd, people -- and considering that i'm a short-tempered gen xer who will very likely have no choice but to clean things up after the sixtyish hippies like mr. young (the bastids), that's saying an awful lot. i strongly recommend this dvd to anyone willing to watch it.

til further on...
