Lil' Debbie strikes again

WaPo ombud Deborah Howell is in a race with Fred Hiatt to the bottom of the stupidity barrel to win some sort of Republican prize. Jane rips Lil' Debbie a new one.

I go back and forth on the Deborah Howell conundrum — ignorant or craven? I always find myself touching down on the Upton Sinclair quote:

It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.

If you haven't kept up, here's the short version. The Post published an editorial, The Good Leak, under editorial page editor Fred Hiatt, that was completely devoid of facts and intellectual honesty and contradicted by a story on the front page of The Post. Howell, who believes "truthiness" is preferable to the truth, defended the editorial by claiming it is ok for editorials to be fact-free since they are intended to "influence" and not "inform."

Howell is a useful tool of the proganda wing of the GOP. Meanwhile, the rest of us have to live in fact-filled reality.
