mccain mccan't mccon't

john mccain's brilliant idea to divert votes from himself to awol for publicity's sake at the southern repubbblican leadership council straw vote is backfiring even more than first thought (yeah, that's what we said...who would think diverting votes from yourself was a good idea?), at least if you're watching msnbc this morning.

in their reportage of the straw vote, the graphic showed the top 4 vote getters, one of which was awol, and none of which was john mccain.

even worse, msnbc spent large amounts of air time fawning over mitt "not a baseball glove" romney's second place showing, and in our humble opinion, that showing should be giving mccain night sweats:

the shocker of the evening was that massachusetts gov. mitt romney placed second, besting far better-known rivals arizona sen. john mccain and virginia sen. george allen. romney finished with 14 percent of the vote.
remember, kids, romney is a north-east mormon, something not exactly expected to curry favor with the southern baptists; at least not expected by the current cw (that's conventional wisdom, not the new wb network).

it gets worse for mccain:

meanwhile on saturday in livingston county, mich., a fast-growing exurban county near detroit, romney won a straw poll of gop activists, according to michigan republican party chairman saul anuzis who was in memphis.

he told reporters that romney had won 25 percent of the vote, mccain 18 percent, and allen 17.5 percent. he estimated that about 400 people had taken part in the michigan straw poll.
looks like the straight-talking express is kind of slow leaving the station.
