wwkd?

we share the worthy sentiments of messers. stoller and black that any democratic "insider" who gives strategery comments to msm hacks is doing the team no little harm. but in reference to this point:

Some Democrats Are Sensing Missed Opportunities - "I think the Republicans are ripe for the taking on this issue," Mr. Bayh said in the interview, "but not until we rehabilitate our own image. I think there's a certain element of denial about how we are viewed, perhaps incorrectly but viewed nonetheless, by many Americans as being deficient on national security."

surely all these insiders should ask, "what would karl do?: and the answer is obvious. he would attack the underlying premise that the republicans are good defenders of the national security. in this case, someone in the democratic party who adopted the strategy of attacking the premise would have an advantage that karl often lacks - the democrat would be telling the truth.

consider an ad with pictures of new orleans, pictures of "heck of a job", pictures of headlines that say $300 billion for war, and a voice over that says something like, "if the republicans protect us at home, how will they ever protect us from foreign enemies?" or consider an ad that cuts between the range of statements awol has made about osama, and osama videos, with a voice over that says, "in the five years since al-quaeda attacked the u.s., osama bin laden has released x videos threatening america, the number of terrorist attacks world wide has increased x%, and the government of the united states has spent 300 billion of your tax dollars on the so-called war on terror. why should we entrust our national security to a team that "never gets their man?"
