if republicans are this concerned about children's safety, why don't they raise this much hell about child molesters?

...the u.s. senate will take up early in the new year a house-passed bill that, disguised as anti-child pornography legislation, poses a serious threat to both hollywood and to millions of american internet users. the legislation is called the children's safety act of 2005. already passed by the house, it has now been introduced by senate judiciary committee chairman orrin hatch, the utah republican, and fast-tracked for speedy passage... {doug ireland, via what really happened}

this is what's considered paramount among our republican officials: eradicating pornography and anything remotely associated with it. not trying to end the war in iraq. not providing american soldiers with the materiel that they need while this war slogs on. not mitigating the economic suffering of their families back in the states who are struggling on sharply reduced incomes because of the war in iraq. not assisting elderly people on fixed incomes, or doing anything to solve the problems with medicare or medicaid. not working to fix social security. not creating jobs. not stabilizing the economy. not doing anything to rebuild new orleans, or to help those new orlenians who remain displaced, or anyone from anywhere else who was displaced by hurricanes katrina, rita, and wilma. not addressing any of the problems with our public education system. not even addressing the physical and psychological problems of rape victims, be they adolescents or adults. and certainly not addressing the gross incompetence, negligence, and heavy-handedness of the best candidate their pathetic excuse for a political party could come up with for the 2004 presidential race, awol, or his administration. no, they want to eliminate boobies and dicks from our collective consciousness, and they want to do that yesterday.

of course, they say it's to "protect the children." but they never invoke the cliche "what about the children?" under any other circumstances, do they? interesting how, whenever the topic of human nudity pops up (snicker), the first thing these beautiful republican souls think of is children -- why is that?
