snowe job?

the new york times reports:

antonia ferrier, a spokeswoman for ms. snowe, characterized her boss's concerns [that lead her to support sen. graham's efforts to deprive detainees of the right of habeus corpus] this way: "do we need all those lawyers going down there to hear their complaints? it seems a little extreme to her. after all, we're talking about enemy combatants."

"it seems a little extreme to her" - but more extreme than waterboarding, sexual humilation or desecration of religious texts - all of which occured while your boss sleptwalked her way through any notion that congress should oversee the executive's detention of enemy combatants for the last 4 years? as senator snowe claims her "moderate" mantel by taking the tough, tough vote against torture, her spokestool gives the game away. what value is the human right not to be tortured, if you can’t use the legal system to restrain the executive from, say, torturing you.

there is no right without a remedy, ms. ferrier. and, gentle reader, there is no such thing as a “moderate” republican.
