three years ago today that we first began this humble recording of our thoughts on the news of the day. we were definately unsure how we would be received, or if even anyone would care to peruse our thoughts on a daily basis.
little did we know that we would not only be joining a wonderful community of patriots and motivated lovers of democracy, we would also, in some small way, be helping to write history; a new history of a new medium that supplants the old with an infusion of enthusiasm and immediacy that can only be good for the dissemination of information, and the republic at large.
we also love to have an outlet to sound pretentious.
here is our very first post we entered three years ago:
the web is one huge library full of books that didn't have to go through an editor to get published. is that good or bad? in truth, it's neither (ok, i've seen some of these blogs, you're right, it is bad). but nonetheless, as the french say, pass the fries!
i gotta start off with thoughts about mr. bush's speech. didn't work for me. not me personally, but my stock portfolio. i spent most of this morning selling at least half of my holdings. one sep-ira which i had started in 1993, and had doubled in value by 2000, had fallen all the back to original value plus $50 as of end of trading today.
i hate to tell you kids this, but we're in the middle of another great depression. that's ok, though, i'm old enough that my parents grew up during the first one, so i know some good techniques for saving money.
and we'd be remiss if we didn't mention our supporters throughout the years: our good friend talkleft, whose emails of good will as well as constant links have been a source of comfort to us;
the rittenhouse review, who paid away the blogspot banner at the top of our site;
devra of blue streak for lending us her yaacs comments account;
susan of easy bake coven, our very first fan.
there are others that have become too numerous to mention, suffice it to say that everyone on our permanent blogroll holds a place in our hearts; and if you like, please see our celebrations of our 1st blogiversary and 2nd blogiversary for specific thanks to specific bloggers who have helped us throughout the years.
we do have to take a moment to thank our co-bloggers who have been carrying the majority of the load for the actual news and information in the last few months, allowing us to slack off and write rants and skippy-centric screeds.
our lovely associate editor cookie jill; our firey senior copy editor pudentilla; the indefatigable mimus pauly; the astute gd frogsdong; the prolific rj eskow; and our good buddy holden caufield. without them, we surely would have given up somewheres around february.
but mostly, and without a doubt, our biggest and most heartfelt thanks go to you, the readers of our piffle, without whose support and patronage we would have quit in a fit of disgust long, long ago. the very fact that you stop by everyday to see what's on our minds heartens us, and gives us hope that the community of level-headed people actually exists in this country.
together we can make things right.
thanks to julia for the happy blogiversay pic!
