iraq: still a mess

15 iraqi soldiers killed by guerrillas: the islamic army in iraq takes responsibility for the attack. a u.s. soldier is reported killed by a roadside bomb in a separate incident. - last month, more than 250 iraqi police and soldiers were killed by militants, while attacks against u.s.-led forces have fallen by more than 20% in the last two months, according to the u.s. military. still, there continue to be about 40 assaults a day aimed at u.s. forces.

the suburban guerrilla notes that although awol's boys have been leaking to the compliant media whores that they will leave iraq soon, internal military documents indicate that they are, in fact, mendacious bags of excrement who plan to stay much longer. she also links to a story in the guardian that recounts how saddam tried to negotiate with awol before the war.

all these offers had at bottom the same thing - that saddam would stay in power, and that was unacceptable to the administration," mr cannistraro said. "there were serious attempts to cut a deal but they were all turned down by the president and vice president.

we just hope that they draft the children of all those people who sport awol-dark lord '04 bumperstickers first.
